Martin Gonzalez, is TriMet LEP outreach coordinator.  He is also a member of Portland Public Schools Board of Directors and president of the Board of Latino Network.  He resides in Oregon since 1987.

Laura O. Foster explores urban neighborhoods and tells their stories in her books, Portland Hill Walks and Portland City Walks, both published by Timber Press. She is also the editor of Metro's  Walk There! guidebook of 50 walks, and is working on a book about Lake Oswego, due out in 2010. She leads walks for Metro, the City of Portland, the Forest Park Conservancy and other groups.

Oregon Reads 2009 is a community reading program that took place in nearly every public library and in every county in Oregon during the state's sesquicentennial, January through April of 2009. Apples to Oregon by Deborah Hopkinson was selected as a title for younger readers for the Oregon Sesquicentennial. In this talk, Hopkinson talks about Oregon's state symbols and what makes a writer. She also shares the stories from her books Apples to Oregon, Abe Lincoln Crosses a Creek, and the forthcoming Stagecoach Sal.

Janet Irwin is a native Oregonian and a native Washingtonian – her parents lived in Milwaukie Oregon, but she was born in Vancouver Washington.  She has a life long love of both states, especially the areas along the Columbia River. Janet is a reference librarian at the Central Library.

Currently Co-Host of AM Northwest, Helen Raptis has lived in the great state of Oregon since the early nineties, when she was a news reporter and anchor for KVAL-TV in Eugene.  Originally from Seattle, Helen now lives in East Vancouver with her husband David and two cats, and a return to the Rose City is in the works for the very near future.

Bat 6 by Virginia Euwer Wolff was selected as a title for younger readers for the Oregon Sesquicentennial. In this talk, Wolff shares some of her inspirations for the book and illuminates her writing process. At the beginning of this event, a group of sixth grade girls from Metropolitan Learning Center act out a reader's theater presentation excerpted from Bat 6.
